PPWR 2026: the new EU packaging rules Amazon sellers must prepare for
The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), Regulation (EU) 2025/40, starts applying on 12 August 2026. It replaces the old packaging directive with directly applicable EU-wide rules.
What PPWR changes
Harmonised requirements on recyclability, recycled content, labelling and minimisation of packaging, applied as a regulation across all member states rather than transposed differently per country.
It tightens the data you need about your packaging and raises the chance of design changes.
What to do before August 2026
Inventory your packaging data now, confirm your EPR registrations per country are in order, and watch for category-specific obligations that phase in after the application date.
