EPR in Germany: LUCID, VerpackG and WEEE for Amazon sellers
Germany has the strictest Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) enforcement in the EU. Selling there without the right registrations is a fast route to a blocked Amazon account.
Packaging: LUCID and VerpackG
Under the Verpackungsgesetz (VerpackG), you must register your packaging in the LUCID register run by the ZSVR and license your packaging volumes with a dual system.
Amazon checks for a valid LUCID number for sales into Germany. Without it, listings can be deactivated.
Electronics: ElektroG and WEEE
If you sell electrical or electronic products, ElektroG requires WEEE registration with stiftung ear before you place them on the German market.
Batteries carry their own registration duties under the battery rules.
The cost of getting it wrong
EPR non-compliance penalties in Germany reach up to €100,000, on top of lost sales while listings are blocked.
